EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
THE CENTER OF THE WOMEN OF NEW YORK PROVIDES EDUCATIONAL SERVICES FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUPPORT AND PREPARATION FOR WOMEN TO PROSPER IN THE WORKFORCE.
 
FAMILY DAY CARE – HEALTH & SAFETY COURSE
A mandatory 15-hour course needed to obtain a license in childcare.  Students are taught about nutrition, recognizing signs of abuse, and safety/fire safety.  At the end of the class students receive a certificate that is the first step toward opening a day care in their home. 

The class consists of 5 three-hour sessions (one each week for 5 weeks) to be held at CWNY, Queens Borough Hall Room 325. Registration fee is $25 and the cost of the training program is $230.  Note: Students who complete the entire course and open a qualified facility may apply for a refund of the course fee. 



MEDICAL OFFICE ASSISTANT’S COURSE
This course is designed to train people to work in a medical office.  Standard office procedures will be taught plus basic medical terminology used for medical records.  All medical records will be required to be entered into a computer system.  Basic keyboarding skills are required for transfer of information to a computer.

The class will consist of a total of 16 hours and takes place on Fridays from 1-5pm at CWNY, Queens Borough Hall Room 325.  The fee will be $125 plus a $25 registration fee. 



THINK GREEN
 
Interested in a career in Horticulture or Landscape Design?
 First Step in plant maintenance and flower arranging.

Learn the basic steps for selecting and caring for green plants in your home and for arranging and presenting flowers for personal use, formal occasions and official functions.  It includes learning to study and select plants and flowers according to type, color and shape, soil cultivation, fertilizing and pest control methods for green and flowering plants.  You will also learn how to grow and maintain plants and flowers on a commercial basis, how to start and cultivate a garden, landscaping designs and techniques for public parks and gardens.  The course will be helpful if you intend to pursue a career as florist, gardener or landscape designer.

There will be 4 weekly sessions of 1 hour each on Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m.   The classes will be held at CWNY, Queens Borough Hall Room 325.  There is a registration fee of $25.00 and the cost of the course is $75.00 which includes basic course materials.  A certificate of course completion will be given at the end of the session.

THE ART OF STRESS REDUCTION AND RELAXATION TECHNIQUES
Today we live in a world full of noises that drain our body and leave us stressed out.  Learning basic yoga movements, meditation and the art of relaxation will help you to enjoy the true essence of your life. Gain an awareness of yourself that can help to rejuvenate your body and appreciate each moment as it unfolds itself. Learn to train the mind to accept the quiet solitude of your inner Self.  Come join us and learn to accept and enjoy your life once again!
6 one-hour sessions (one per week) at Queensborough Hall, 120-55 Queens Blvd., Room 325, Kew Gardens, NY 11424 
Registration fee is $25 and the course fee is $75   



SERVICES OFFERED FOR FREE

HOME HEALTH AIDE CLASS
Taught by a Certified Home Health professional.  Students are trained to assist the ill and elderly.   Registration fee is $25; training is Free
Classes will be held offsite.


LEGAL CLINIC
Takes place every other Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Queens Borough Hall Room 325.  An Attorney  provides advice for a variety of issues including divorce, domestic violence, child custody, and assistance with filing forms.


JOB CLUB
Attendees receive guidance on job searches, finding the appropriate career field, putting together a resume and preparing for an interview. We do not provide job referrals. 

WOMEN’S SUPPORT GROUP
Takes place on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. Queens Borough Hall Room 325. A social worker leads the group discussion in a variety of issues such as self esteem, coping techniques and domestic violence.
